Hey Jude

don’t let me down

naming and shaming of Jews in Germany in 1933

take a sad song and make it better

remember to let her into your heart

then you can start to make it better

hey Jude

don’t make it bad

you were born to

go out and get her

for some reason, sitting on the bench under the darkening clouds at the Brandenburg Gate, absorbing this image and others from 1933 that tell the story of the rise to power of the Nazis and their first moves towards implementing their vision of a pure Aryan race secure in its lebensraum, this song and its half-remembered lyrics start playing in my head. compulsively, on repeat. soothing but disturbing.
